About Village Scenes

Village Scenes opens with a Dance in which the violin plays the opening bars of an Inuit (native Alaskan people) dance. The piano reproduces the native drum. Some contrasting "Moss" material follows , but the basic mood never strays far from the Inuit original. Northern Lights, the 2nd movement is my attempt to reproduce the mysterious and serene quality of this Northern phenomenon. Lullaby, the next movement, reproduces an Inuit lullaby in the right hand of the piano part.

Spring, The 4th movement, is a light-hearted romp, more suited to southern climes. (In Alaska, April is known as "mud month!") The 5th movement, Alone, could be true of any clime. Towards the end this movement morphs into the opening Dance.

Village Scenes will appear on the forthcoming CD devoted to my recent music: Innova CD 777.
