2 trumpets toss motives and mute changes back and forth, hence the piece's title - Together. The 1st movement contrasts rhythmic and lyrical passages, while the 2nd movement tosses dynamic contrasts back and forth, eventually merging into a quote from Stravinsky's Fanfare for a New Theater. This is followed by the players moving to opposite wings of the stage, where they perform an antiphonal, somewhat dissonant version of Taps. When they return to their original positions stage center, a modified repeat of the opening concludes the piece.
