Korean Peaks: Improvisations on a Korean Folk Tune received its World Premiere on Nov. 9, 2008 in Washington, DC in a concert sponsored by the Left Bank Concert Society.

The piece is basically a written-out improvisation on some music I found on a CD of ethnic Korean music. This music seemed to me to be characterized by stretches of wild improvisation followed by passages of poignant stillness. My Korean Peaks echoes this path achieving towards the end a gentle sadness in the haunting strains of the Korean national anthem, Arirang.
