About Hear this Touch

Hear This Touch for soprano and tape was written for noted new-music virtuoso Phyllis Bryn-Julson, who has recorded it on Lawrence Moss: Unseen Leaves (Electronic Music Foundation EMF CD045). The music closely tracks the poem Exercise by American poet Jim Harrison (used by permission):

Hear this touch
Grass parts
For the snake
In furrows
Soil curves around itself,
A rock topples
Into the lake,
Roused organs,
Fur against cloth,
Arms unfold,
At the edge of a clearing
Fire selects new wood.

The voice on the tape is that of my wife, Graydon H. Moss
