Harried was written for famed Dutch bass clarinet virtuoso Harry Sparnaay, who has played it throughout Europe. The tape part is based on samples of his playing, digitally modified with a Kurzweil synthesizer. Harry's playing is frenzied, theatrical. Harried capitalizes on this, "harrying" the performer with his own recorded notes. Harry Sparnaay's formidable tongue slaps are a feature of both the recorded and acoustic music.
