The text for Either/Or for soprano and percussion is as follows: The question (first four lines, in English, German, French and Italian) is finally answered by the early Chinese philosopher Zhuang Zi, who lived over 2,000 years ago. Zhuang Zi was a follower of Lao Zi, the founder of Taoism. Zhuang's style is often playful, as in these questions. But his conclusions are deeply meaningful, as in the Epilogue.
