"Chanson" gets its name from the "Chanson" of the great early Renaissance composer Ockeghem. The piece begins with the flutists giving hints of Ockegehm's tune, finally singing it at the end. In between there are many opportunities for 20th century flute techniques.

"Chanson" was written for Professor William Montgomery and the University of Maryland Flute Choir.
